Date:

From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) at the weekend called on Nigerian women who have the wherewithal to vie for elective positions and not necessarily wait to be given political appointment.

The association also promised its maximum supports in terms of publicity and mobilizing people towards their success in elections in 2015 and beyond.

Vice President, North-west zone of NAWOJ, Hajia Zaina Rabo Ringim, who made this known during the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) sensitization campaign at Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Kaduna, was optimistic that more women would be involved in decision making in the country come 2015.

The zonal VP, whose speech was delivered by the Zonal Secretary, Hajia Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu however called on NAWOJ members to ensure they abide by the ethics and conducts of journalism profession in order not to be found wanting at any point in time.

Similarly, the Kaduna Chairman of NAWOJ, Mrs. Juliet Oyoyo added that Nigeria women should endeavour to make themselves relevant in all sectors and not to be relegated to the background.

“And as 2015 draws nearer, women journalists should give enough publicity to our women who are financially disadvantaged and sometimes, because of the environment they are not heard or seen even when they are outstanding in their callings.

“We can all see the good job the few of them we have in nation’s economy are doing. So we need more of them to come on board and do us proud.

“The workshop on Ebola is still timely because we need to continuously educate our women who are home makers, wives and mothers, who will in turn educate their people” she stressed.
