Godfathers killing Nigerian politics – Lawmaker

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial  aspirant in Nasarawa north senatorial district consisting of Nassrawa Eggon, Akwanga and Wamba,  Philip Aruwa Gyunka has decried that political godfatherism should be phased out in the country’s politic system.

Gyunka who is also a member of the state House of assembly, stated this at the weekend in an interview with journalists at his residence in Akwanga while recounting his bitter experience during the recent PDP primaries.

According to him “Godfatherism is a killer of the Nigerian politics.”

He called on Nigerians to avoid it as well as admonished that the younger generation should be equally giving a level play ground in the political process.

His words “Godfatherism is a stumbling block in our political system. The youth should be given the desired chance to exhibit their talents that God has bestowed on them.”

Gyunka who opined that if elected come 2015 as the senator said he will dwell on issues that will uplift the youths for a better generation.

He however lamented on the total negligence of the agricultural sector which was the main source of revenue derivation during the early 60s; urging federal government to embark on  measures to resuscitate the sector especially the production of groundnut in the north, cocoa as well as rice production, as according to him, diversifying the nation’s economy would go a long way to improve the living standard of the poor masses.
