The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) on Tuesday said that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, lacks the moral standing to lecture Nigerians on governance or political consistency.
The group was reacting to Amaechi’s recent claim that the quality of life in Nigeria has deteriorated under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Amaechi made the remarks during his appearance at a protest at the National Assembly over the Senate’s rejection of real-time transmission of election results, where he also called on Nigerians to come out en masse and protest.
In a press release signed by its National Coordinator, Chuks Oyema, APC G3 described Amaechi’s comments as misleading and self-serving.
“It is disappointing, though not surprising, that individuals who enjoyed power and privilege for years suddenly discover ‘truth’ only after exiting government,” the group said.
APC G3 further noted that one of Amaechi’s former ministerial colleagues, now parading as an “emergency activist,” is currently facing public questions over the acquisition of 57 properties within eight years, underscoring what the group described as the hypocrisy of sudden moral outrage among former officials.
The group accused Amaechi of political inconsistency, stating that his career has been marked by serial defections driven by personal ambition rather than ideology.
“Amaechi’s political history is defined by serial defections — moving from one party to another whenever personal ambition demanded it. Such political nomadism raises serious questions about ideology, loyalty, and credibility. Those who jump ships at every turn should not pretend to be principled voices after losing relevance,” APC G3 said.
Defending the Tinubu administration, the group stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking decisive and courageous steps to reposition Nigeria for long-term growth.
“President Tinubu, unlike armchair critics, is confronting long-ignored structural problems head-on — from economic reforms and fiscal discipline to infrastructure renewal and institutional strengthening,” the statement read.
According to APC G3, while the reforms may be difficult, they are necessary and already laying the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable economy.
“Nigeria does not need revisionist narratives or sanctimonious lectures from former officials who failed to deliver when they had the opportunity. What the country needs is patience, honesty, and support for reforms that will secure a better future.”
The group concluded by emphasizing that leadership should be judged by action, not rhetoric.
“History will judge leaders not by opportunistic soundbites, but by the courage to act in the national interest. President Tinubu has chosen action over excuses,” APC G3 added.
