Alhaji Abubakar Kusada of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared winner of the bye-election for the member representing Kankia/Ingawa/Kusada Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
Yahaya Kusada who is the incumbent Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, polled 48, 518 votes to defeat his closest contender AbdusSamad Abdullahi of the PDP who scored 20, 119 votes.
Others contenders were Nasiru Kankia of the People’s Redemption Party, PRP, who scored 1,010 , and Abdullahi Umar of the Youths Eletorate Solidarity who polled 229 votes.
Announcing the results at the collation center in Kankia, the Returning Officer for the bye-election, Professor Rasheed Adedayo explained that more than 73, 000 registered voters cast their votes during the elections.
He noted that the election was peaceful as no case of violence was reported during the election.
It could be recalled that the federal House of Representatives seat for the member representing Kankia/Kusada/Ingawa of Katsina State became vacant after the member representing the constituency won the Katsina North Senatorial bye-election in August.
With this Our Correspondent reports that Mr. Kusada’s victory has created another vacancy at the Katsina State House of Assembly where another bye-election is expected, to elect the member representing Kusada Constituency at the state House of Assembly.
