Asaba 2024: Anambra State Wins 4 more gold as the Games winds down

Team Anambra at the 8th National Youth Games are breaking records and making history as they clinched four more gold medals on Day 6 in Asaba, Delta State.
The contingent from the Light of the Nation on Tuesday created a new record of 9 gold medals surpassing their previous record of 7 Gold medals during the 7th edition of the NYG in 2023.
This new record was aided by the first ever gold in the girls’ singles event in scrabble won in style by Victoria Chukwuebuka and she also helped Anambra to win silver in the girls’ team event.
100 meters gold medalist, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo, was at her very best in search of the precious metal, taking home gold in the 200 meters event.
She was trailed by fellow Anambra athlete and Long Jump Gold medalist, Adaeze Eze, who picked a silver.
The 200m Duo teamed up with Daniel Miracle & Ifechukwu Nwankwo to claim top honours in the female 4×100 meters relay final finishing in a time of 48.22 seconds.
There were more medals for Team Anambra as the duo of Gift Iwobi and Chioma Omah settled for silver medal in the female beach volleyball event having lost to their counterparts from Kaduna State by two sets to one.
Also winning gold for Anambra was Chioma Emma-Ibegwu as recorded a massive 9 over 9 clearout on the board to win the main event of the Female Classical Category on Board 1.
In the female Volleyball Team Anambra defeated Team Kaduna 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-18), while Emma Ifedibasi capped the day’s event with a bronze medal won in the Judo combat fight event.
