Bauchi secures licence for power plant project says Commissioner

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Power and Energy, Barrister Yakubu Bello Kirfi has reiterated the determination of the Government to ensure the construction of 120 megawatts Yankari Power plant in the state.

The commissioner stated this while speaking with news men yesterday, saying that the Isa Yuguda led administration is committed towards the establishment of a power plant that will be constructed by China Machinery and Engineering Corporation (CMEC).

He said arrangements have been concluded by the State Government to acquire a loan of $171m from Exim Bank China for the establishment of power the plant project in the state.

He pointed out that the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Abuja has approved the issuance of licences for the generation of power to Bauchi State Yankari Power Company, upon payment of $40,000.00, which Governor of Bauchi state Mal. Isa Yuguda has graciously approved the payment accordingly. Barrister Bello Kirfi stated that the Federal Ministry of Finance has already granted approval for the Import Duty waiver of over N4billion to Bauchi state in respect of importation of Machinery and Equipment to be used in the construction of the power plant in the state.

“The state government is committed about the important project and very soon the contractors will commence work because the Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja has finally approved the issuance of Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate of Bauchi state Yankari Power project, while the consultant Thematricts Associate Abuja that handled the assessment has finally forwarded the original approved final report in an electronic form for record purposes,” he added.

The Commissioner therefore called on citizens of the state to support the good intention of the state government as all formalities have been concluded towards that direction.
