The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to establish mobile courts to prosecute producers of fake and sub-standard products.
Abubakar made the call yesterday in Sokoto when the Director-General of SON, Dr Joseph Odumodu, paid him a courtesy visit.
The Sultan said “such a court will close all companies producing fake and sub-standard products in the country’’.
“It will also prosecute proprietors of these companies as they are wrecking havoc on Nigerians and the nation’s economy.
He expressed concern that the number of fake and sub-standard products were on the increase across the country, and assured SON of the support and cooperation of the Sokoto Sultanate Council in reversing the trend.
The Sultan also urged the organisation to sustain its ongoing nationwide effort to sensitise Nigerians on the dangers of killer-products.
Abubakar appealed to the populace to demonstrate patriotism by patronising made-in-Nigeria products.
Speaking earlier, Odumodu told the Sultan that he was in his palace to pay his respect and seek his blessings for the activities of SON.
“SON now has zero tolerance for fake and sub-standard products. We will do everything humanly possible to protect the lives of Nigerians,” Odumodu promised. (NAN)
