NAOWA President commissions remodelled creche, nursery school in Kaduna
The President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Shaibu, has commissioned the remodelled NAOWA Creche and Nursery School at Dalet Barracks, Kaduna.
Shaibu said the project was an investment in children, military families and the future of the nation.
She spoke on Thursday during the commissioning ceremony of the facility at 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Dalet Barracks, Kaduna.
She said providing children with a safe and conducive environment for learning, while giving parents assurance of their welfare, would strengthen military families.
“Sometimes, meaningful change begins with a simple observation. A child needs a safe place to learn, a teacher needs a conducive environment to teach and parents need assurance that their children are cared for.
“When these needs are properly addressed, the entire family benefits,” she said.
Shaibu commended the Chairperson, 1 Division NAOWA Chapter, Dr Halima Bamanga Tafida-Wase, and her team for transforming an identified need into a lasting solution.
She said the facility would promote early learning, social interaction, discipline, creativity and positive values among the children.
According to her, the project is also in line with her vision of having “a United and Innovative NAOWA that would Empower Military Families through Self-Reliance and Sustainable Livelihoods.”
The NAOWA president said empowerment went beyond skills acquisition and economic opportunities, stressing the importance of creating an environment where military families could live, work and raise their children with dignity.
She appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his continued support and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Army families.
She also commended the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, for his support toward projects aimed at improving the welfare of military families within the division.
Shaibu urged NAOWA chairpersons, coordinators and zonal coordinators across the association’s chapters to continue identifying and implementing projects that addressed the genuine needs of military families.
Earlier, Tafida-Wase said the remodelling of the school represented an investment in the future of children in the barracks.
She said a conducive learning environment would provide pupils with the confidence, motivation and opportunity to learn, grow and develop into responsible citizens.
Tafida-Wase expressed appreciation to the NAOWA president for her leadership, encouragement and commitment to improving the wellbeing of military families.
She said the chapter was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the project and expressed the hope that the facility would serve generations of pupils.
Shaibu urged the management of the facility to ensure proper utilisation, regular maintenance and effective management to enable it to stand the test of time.
She said, “When we invest in our children today, we build a stronger family and a better future tomorrow.
