Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Tuesday paid a visit to survivors of the Kurmin Wali attack at the Kaduna State Women and Children’s Shelter, declaring a renewed and uncompromising security push, including a demand for the establishment of a military base in the troubled community.
The Governor described the visit as one undertaken with a “heavy yet hopeful heart,” as he met men, women and children who recently returned from the grip of banditry and are currently receiving medical care and psychosocial support from the state government.
He said he was encouraged by the survivors’ steady recovery, noting that health professionals handling their cases have recorded positive responses to treatment. He expressed confidence that, in due course, they would be medically and psychologically certified fit to reunite with their families and resume normal life.
Despite their traumatic experience, the Governor said the survivors welcomed him with warmth, optimism and visible gratitude, while he praised their resilience and determination to put the painful chapter behind them.
According to him, their appreciation of the Kaduna State Government’s intervention and their resolve to heal and move forward are powerful testimonies to the enduring strength of the people of Kurmin Wali and Kaduna State at large.
Governor Uba Sani stressed that the government’s responsibility goes beyond care and compassion, assuring that concrete security actions are being taken to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
He disclosed that he has formally made a strong case to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff for the establishment of a military base in Kurmin Wali, describing it as a critical step towards restoring lasting peace in the area.
The proposed military base, he explained, would significantly enhance security coverage, deter criminal elements and protect Kurmin Wali and neighbouring communities from further attacks.
The Governor further reaffirmed that the Kaduna State Government is working closely with security agencies to secure the release of those still in captivity and ensure their safe return, pledging that no effort would be spared until every abducted citizen is rescued.
He reiterated his administration’s unrelenting commitment to protecting lives, restoring peace and upholding the dignity of every resident of Kaduna State, insisting that security remains the bedrock of development and social stability.
The visit and the renewed call for a military base signal a firm message from the Kaduna State Government that banditry will be confronted decisively and communities will not be left at the mercy of criminal elements.
