A former Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s preferred governorship candidate in Yobe State, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement addressed to supporters in Yobe North Senatorial District, Lawan said he had accepted the party’s decision in good faith, urging his loyalists to remain calm and united despite differing aspirations.
The APC in Yobe had recently resolved to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and adopt consensus candidates across key positions, including the governorship.
Lawan acknowledged that the emergence of Wali, a former Secretary to the State Government, may not align with the expectations of all party members, but stressed that party unity and collective interest must prevail.
He described the development as a significant opportunity for Yobe North to produce a governor for the first time since the state’s creation, calling on supporters to rally behind the APC’s choice.
“I have accepted this decision in good faith on your behalf,” he said, pledging to work for the success of the party in all elections in the state.
The former Senate President also urged party faithful to return to their wards and mobilise support for the APC, emphasizing the need to approach the 2027 elections as a united front.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s victory in Yobe State, expressing confidence that the APC would retain power in the state.
