A Member of the House of Representatives, Uzoma Nkem-Abonta has urged the Federal Government to adopt the soil water trap technology to grow grass for the consumption of cattle in Nigeria.
Speaking at a facility tour of Divine Reward farms located in Kuje at the weekend, Nkem-Abota said if the Federal Government can adopt the soil water trap to grow grassland in Nigeria, the issue of herders/farmers clash will be a thing of the past as the technology can rapidly grow glass in dry lands in the northern part of Nigeria.
He said””from what we’ve seen here today the soil water trap is capable of retaining water that nourishes the grass and other vegetables including plants for human consumption.
“This technology will go a long way in making the proposed ranching of cattle by the Federal Government easy and lucrative for both farmers and cattle rustlers across Nigeria.
The Executive Director of the farm, Mrs Chinyere Aladi and the General Manager, Chinyere Okafor who conducted journalists round the green houses where plants and vegetables that the soil water trap technology was used said the technology is harmless.
Explaining further, Mrs Aladi said” the soil water trap increases the water holding capacity of soil thereby enhancing plant growth as water and nutrients are available in the root zone for optimal absorption by plants.
“The soil water trap is a suoerabsorbent anionic polycarylamide polymer and a cross linked copolymers of acrylamide and potassium acrylate that is water insoluble.
She said” it provides a buffer effect against climatic hazards as there are many agriculture applications such as tree planting, nurseries, transplanting landscaping large scale farming and others.
