Members of the Girls’ Brigade across Nasarawa state, have staged a protest demanding the federal government to step up measures to secure the release of the over 200 girls abducted in Chibok by the Boko Haram sect.

The girls marched through the city yesterday singing solidarity songs while displaying placards before converging by the entrance of Government House where they were received by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Zainab Abdulmumini, who stood in for Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura.

Leader of the protest and state commandant of the Girls’ Brigade, Mary Musa Jerry, told the SSG that the girls decided to embark on the protest because they are deeply concerned over the predicament of the girls abducted in Chibok.

She said it has become necessary for the girls to go into the streets to demand for the quick release of the abducted Chibok girls.

“We are here to cry to our Governor, so that he will take it to the Federal Government. We are here eating and sleeping in comfort, what about the abducted girls? We demand that the federal government step up measures to secure the quick release of the girls” Mary said.

Responding, Zainab Abdulmumini, the Nasarawa SSG, said the protest by the Girls Brigade is in consonance with what is expected of every right thinking citizen, adding that the protest is not in vain and that she will communicate their message to the Governor for onward transmission to the president.
