The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), has urged the federal government to live up to its promise to free the over 200 school girls abducted in Chibok, Borno state, by the Boko Haram sect.
The Guild, in a communiqué issued by its President, Femi Adesina, at the end of its standing committee meeting in Owerri, noted that the abduction was not only an assault on Chibok, but the entire country.
It praised Nigerians for rising up in unison against the abduction of the school girls and commended the international community for offering assistance to Nigeria to free them.
The Guild urged Nigerians to be security conscious and pass relevant information to security agents who are expected to promptly act on such information in order to stop terrorism in the country.
The communiqué further decried the acrimonious nature of the ongoing National Conference and called on delegates to watch their utterances capable of causing more disunity in the country.
The Guild also expressed worry that the 2014 budget had not been passed five months into the year. It therefore called on both the executive and the legislative arms of government to resolve their differences on the issue and pass the budget urgently.
