The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has charged commanders across the Nigerian Army to enhance operational effectiveness through strict accountability, professionalism and results-oriented leadership.

Speaking at the closing of the Chief of Army Staff Bi-Annual Conference 2026 held at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, the Army Chief said the conference provided a platform for critical assessment and strategic planning to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that deliberations at the conference focused on improving operational responses, strengthening training structures and adapting to the realities of the contemporary security environment.

According to him, the resolutions reached during the conference are aimed at building a more agile, combat-ready, technologically advanced and mission-driven Nigerian Army.

The COAS highlighted ongoing efforts to improve operational capabilities, including the acquisition of additional tactical drones and the reconfiguration of Army aviation assets for combat operations.

He said the enhancements have improved intelligence gathering, precision targeting, operational mobility and casualty evacuation capabilities.

Shaibu also emphasized progress recorded in recruitment, advanced military training, professional education and leadership development, stressing that discipline, competence and merit-based promotion remain vital to institutional growth and operational efficiency.

Reaffirming his “soldier-first” policy, the Army Chief said troop motivation and conducive working conditions are critical to operational success.

He directed commanders to prioritise personnel welfare through prompt payment of entitlements, improved healthcare services, educational support and better welfare packages for soldiers and their families.

The COAS urged participants to ensure effective implementation of the conference resolutions, stressing that the impact of the conference would only be measured by operational results achieved in the field.

He also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support and strategic guidance to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

The conference featured the presentation of commendation plaques to senior officers who completed their tours of duty and the unveiling of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Feature Centre insignia.
