High Court sitting in Minna has discharged the former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu and Chairman of the State People’s Democratic Party Barrister Tanko Beji.
The Presiding Judge, Justice, Mikeil Abdullahi ruled that there was no Prima-Facie evidence on the seven count charges presented before the court that linked the first accused, former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu to the award of contract to M.J-ECO Consultancy Investment limited by the ministry of Environment.
The judge also ruled that there was no legal admissible evidence that established that the former governor benefitted from the payment from the said contract.
The judge further, said there was no prima facie case made against the second accused person Barrister Tanko Beji in count one and three of the charge brought before the Court and therefore discharged him accordingly.
Justice Mikeil asked the third accused, former Governorship candidates under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party Alhaji Umar Nasko to enter his defence in respect to the count 5, 6 and 7 charges that bothered on criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust, contrary to section nine- seven, and three-one-two of the penal code cap ninety-four law of the Niger state.
