CSOs laud Tinubu family’s grassroots governance style

A coalition of civil society organisations under the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and Mr Seyi Tinubu for what it described as a grassroots-driven style of governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The group said the approach of the “First Family” has helped bring governance closer to ordinary Nigerians across communities.

In a letter addressed to the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, the coalition said the administration’s leadership style has strengthened public engagement and improved the connection between government and the grassroots.

The letter was signed by the National Coordinator of the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative, Samaila Musa, and endorsed by the Democracy Watch Initiative and the Congress of Nigerian Youths and Civil Society Organizations.

Musa said the administration’s strength lies in what he described as a “three-dimensional approach” to governance.

“As active observers of our democracy, we have noted that the strength of this administration lies in its three-dimensional approach: the visionary leadership of the President, the compassionate outreach of the First Lady, and the energetic grassroots mobilisation of the youth,” he said.

He commended Tinubu for what he called bold reforms aimed at repositioning the country’s economy and infrastructure.

“The transition from stabilisation in 2025 to acceleration in 2026 is visible in our communities. From the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme to the massive infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates initiative, your administration is proving that policy can indeed translate into dignity and jobs for the grassroots,” Musa stated.

The coalition also praised the humanitarian interventions of the First Lady through the Renewed Hope Initiative, describing her as a “mother of the nation and a catalyst for grassroots development.”

According to the group, programmes targeting child malnutrition and the EmpowerHer774 initiative have provided support to millions of Nigerians, particularly women and other vulnerable groups.

Musa noted that the First Lady’s recent appeal to the wives of the 36 state governors to deepen the impact of the initiative reflects her commitment to decentralised grassroots development.

The coalition further commended Seyi Tinubu for mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boy Movement and other initiatives.

“By breaking the barrier of VIP elitism and engaging directly with the youth from ‘area boys’ to tech entrepreneurs, he has reclaimed the streets for democracy,” Musa said.

He added that the City Boy Movement had grown into a platform connecting young Nigerians to governance and development.

“Whether through the Noella Foundation, the appointment of strategic zonal coordinators, or the establishment of the CBM Women Wing, Mr Seyi Tinubu has ensured that the youth are not just spectators but active stakeholders in the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

The coalition urged the Federal Government to sustain what it described as an open-door style of governance that keeps leaders closely connected to citizens at the grassroots.
