Don’t pelt politicians with objects,

Date:

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Lamido of Adamawa (HRH) Dr Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha has advised the youths in Nigeria to avoid being used by politicians as thugs to be fomenting trouble at political campaign rallies, saying that such attitude was despicable and uncalled for.

Barkindo dropped the advise yesterday when the Senior Special Adviser to Mr. President on Youth and Student Matters, Comrade Jude Imagwe who was in the state for president Goodluck Jonathan campaign rally yesterday paid a courtesy call on him at the palace.

According to the Lamido Adamawa and chancellor of the University of Benin Dr. Aliyu Mustapha, all must honour and respect each other.

The paramount ruler noted with concern an ugly development where some youths pelted politicians at political rallies adding that instead of that the youths should use their numerical strengths to vote out any unpopular politician during the coming general elections.

“If you want to pelt somebody, do it with your votes, but if you start pelting people with pure water and stones, you will be arrested and you will be jailed, may be you will die in jail or by the time you come out of jail, you will be paralyzed.” He noted.

Lamido noted with concern the recent trend where youths maltreat visitors adding that the development was a departure from the norms of Nigerians as he noted that both Islam and Christianity have taught their followers to respect guest and visitors.

And he stressed, “it is not right to pelt people with pure water or stones or whatever but it should be done by your votes and if you pelt people you will be jailed”

He commended the Senior Special Adviser for moving around to sensitize the youths against the use of violence adding that people should be told to act peacefully during the forthcoming elections.

Earlier the S.S.A to President Goodluck Jonathan praised the Lamido of Adamawa as having brought stability at his (S.S.A.S) alma matter, the University of Benin.

According to Comrade Imagwe, he was in Adamawa to give the youths hope on what they stand to gain from Jonathan administration.
