Dutch NGO, KNCV Nigeria donates multi-billion Naira health equipment to combat tuberculosis in Kano

KNCV Nigeria, a Dutch Nongovernmental Organization, has donated equipment, worth N3 billion to Kano state government to combat tuberculosis and other infections diseases.
The state-of-art equipment, including 20 Portable Digital X-ray Machines, were presented to the state government at an event held in the state yesterday.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the KNCV Nigeria, Dr Odume Bethrand said his agency has a strong collaboration with governments in the fight against tuberculosis.
He said the target of the agency is to close the treatment coverage gap, which was 41 percent in 2022.
“ One of our key deliverables is to close the treatment coverage gap which was 41% in 2022 (GTB 2023). We in KNCV and indeed globally have come to realize the role technology can play in TB implementation.”
“For instance, in 2023, while piloting the use of PDX with Al in Kano with only 2 platforms l, we were able to diagnose 957 persons with TB in 9 months.
“With funding from GF, NTBLCP FMDH is donating these 20 portable digital x ray with Artificial intelligence to Kano state Government through KNCV Nigeria to drive a targeted TB case finding intervention in Kano state. “
“We also thank our funders Global Fund, acting through our PR FMoH/NTBLCP for taking this bold initiative in allowing KNCV demonstrate a sustainable concept of use of technology at scale nationwide under the IMPACT project,”covers patient safety and quality of care, data protection and privacy, verification of medical licensing and qualifications, ethical considerations covering consent and confidentiality.”
She however lamented that there is no legal framework for telemedicine operators,adding that “Some providers have been asking for a blueprint/guidance while some are using the information gathered from the United Kingdom.”
