Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has handed over the 71 freed minors, who were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protest in August and detained in Abuja.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Muhammadu Buhari Hospital in Kano on Thursday, governor Yusuf charged them to be good ambassadors and always respect rule of law.
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, governor Yusuf charged the minors to always be law-abiding and shun all acts of unlawful protest in the future.
He noted that government would sponsor the education of all the reformed minors, while those who that already have a qualification would be employed during the next recruitment exercise.
Sagagi further explained that Kano State Government was according much priority on Education,siting the Allocation of over 30% on the education sector in the 2025 proposed budget as a clear demonstration of government commitment to uplifting the standard of living of the general populace .
He Directed the Ministry of Education to ensure adequate follow-up on the reformed Minors ,aimed at ensuring effective service delivery.
Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa maintained that the ministry has taken statistics of those who are in secondary school among the reformed Minors,and will return them back to school will ensure adequate follow up to achieve the set objectives.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Malam Nura Muhammad commended Kano state government for taking the responsibility of the minors up to the time of their release.
Earlier, the Chief of Field Office UNICEF, Mr Michael Banda UNICEF said the Release and Reunification of the Kano 76 Children and Young People from Post Detention Interim Care was a great development.
He commended Kano State Government for remarkable leadership in prioritizing the rights and welfare of these children.
