Ex-Kaduna PDP Governorship Candidate, Isa Ashiru, Defects To ADC
Isa Ashiru, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State during the 2023 election, has officially resigned from the party.
In a resignation letter dated March 27 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Kudan Ward, Kudan Local Government Area, Ashiru said his decision followed careful consideration of ongoing issues within the party.
He cited persistent internal crises, leadership struggles, and divisions as key reasons for stepping down from the PDP.
According to him, these challenges made it increasingly difficult for him to remain actively involved in the party.
He described the decision as personal and made in good faith.
Shortly after announcing his resignation, Ashiru confirmed his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by sharing a campaign-style poster featuring the party’s logo on his Facebook page.
Ashiru is a former member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the Makarfi/Kudan federal constituency. He also previously served in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Over the years, he has contested several elections, including the 2023 governorship race, where he lost to Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In that election, Sani secured 730,002 votes, while Ashiru polled 719,196 votes.
