The Nigeria Revenue Protection Practitioners, have recommended whistle-blowing policy to the Distribution Companies (DISCO), nationwide to check revenue and other acts of sabotage of the nation’s assets hindering the development of the power sector in Nigeria.
The decision was reached during the fifth sessions by the group meeting held in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
In a communiqué jointly signed by the president and 1st national vice president of Revenue Protection Practitioners of Nigeria, Engr. Abimbola Odubiyi and Ernest Edgar, urged DISCO’s to put measures in place that would encourage the public to call, report, name and shame all criminal activities against the development of the power sector with the support of relevant agencies of the government.
It cited vandalism of national assets by hoodlums as the most pervasive challenge impeding the growth of the Nigeria economy and advocated for dialogue, proper documentation, abolition of compromised vending, asset protection, and legislation as solution to check the menace of energy theft, metre bypassing, as well as illegal reconnection by some electricity consumers nationwide.
