The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, has commended the management of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Gwagwalada Branch for choosing the theme of this year’s 2023 law week which tagged “Elevating Justice: Law and the Legal Profession in Nigeria’s National Rebirth”
Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, who was the Chairman of the occasion at the opening ceremony of the 2023 law week, called on the judges as well as the legal luminaries to play their role in promoting fairness, justice and equity in the society.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of planning committee, Barr. Ibrahim Haruna said: “Law week is an annual event of the branch which brings together members and other stakeholders in the justice sector to discuss contemporary legal issues and challenges and chatting the way forward for better justice delivery”.
According to Barr. Haruna, “the theme for the 2023 law week “Elevating Justice: Law and the legal profession in Nigeria’s National Rebirth” was carefully chosen considering the current challenges confronting the justice delivery sector in the Nigerian State which has occasioned negative perception about the quality of the judgments emanating from our courts and the integrity of our judicial officers and lawyers alike”.
His words: Our judicial officers and lawyers must ensure that in all cases justice must be done and must be manifestly seen to be done in order to achieve a National Rebirth of the Nigerian State which we are yearning for”.
Also speaking, the Chairman NBA Gwagwalada branch (the Eagle Bar), Barr. Emmanuel Tayo Ogunjide, urged Nigerians to deem it fit to interrogate justice within the different spheres of the society.
Ogunjide informed the gathering that the 2023 Law week was organized to encourage interaction between the legal luminaries and judges, and thanked the people who contributed towards the successes of the 2023 law week.
Meanwhile, the law week featured plenary sessions, law dinner and award.
