To enhance service delivery, the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, under the leadership of the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe began the week with a strong focus on health safety, faster emergency response, and improved working conditions for health workers.

This, clearly demonstrates the FCT Administration’s strong commitment to saving lives, improving emergency health systems, and creating a fair, enabling environment for health workers.

Dr. Fasawe flagged off the one-day training workshop titled “Scaling Impactful Tech-Enabled Emergency Response”, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), organized by the FCT Primary Health Care Board, the workshop brought together key emergency responders, community health workers, and partners, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Health Emergency Initiative (HEI).

It was gathered that the training equipped first responders with practical skills to handle and manage victims at the scene, provide immediate care, and ensure the safe and timely transfer of patients to hospitals. It also addressed quick response methods for noncommunicable diseases and other health emergencies.

Dr. Fasawe also visited the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, to commend his dedication and share the growing national and international recognition of FCT health workers due to adequate empowerment by the government. She used the opportunity to call for improved welfare, a more supportive work environment, and policies that would help retain skilled professionals and reduce the Japa syndrome.

Following the training, Dr. Fasawe held a strategic meeting with the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, mni, in his office to discuss stronger program collaboration, good governance, and data-driven decision-making  all in an effort to improve road safety and ensure effective victim care from the accident scene to the hospital through coordinated action.

In attendance were the Acting Executive Secretary of the PHCB, Dr. Rukayyah Wammako; HEI Executive Director, Mr. Paschal Achunine; and the Director-General of FERMA, Engr. Muhammed Abdulraheem.
