In what appears to be an imminent clash with the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the eligibility of the Adamawa state Acting Governor, Umar Fintiri, to contest the state gubernatorial election in 2015, the party’s flagbearer in the forthcoming October 11th governorship bye election has declared that only God can decide his fate.

The party had recently insisted that eight other aspirants on the platform of the PDP agreed to step down from contesting the party’s primary with the understanding that whoever wins the ticket would not contest the 2015 election.

The party’s National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo, had recently disclosed that the aspirants agreed to the terms and that the governorship slot had been zoned to the Adamawa Central in 2015.

But Fintiri who spoke to newsmen at the PDP headquarters yesterday signaled his readiness to move against the agreement as he indicated that he may show interest in contesting the governorship poll in 2015 even if he wins the oncoming bye-election in the state.

Asked for his reaction to the party’s decision indicating that he had been barred from contesting in 2015 himself coming from the Adamawa North Senatorial District, Fintiri said “Only God will tell.”

Speaking on why he was at the party secretariat, Fintiri said he was at the party`s headquarters to thank its leadership for conducting free and fair primaries in Adamawa.

He also disclosed that he has started working with those he contested the party`s ticket with, as well as Adamawa PDP stakeholders to ensure that the party is victorious at the bye-election.

“I am adequately prepared to get victory for the PDP; I assure you that all the 14 of us are working together.

“We have collapsed all the party`s structures in the state and handed it over to its leadership in Yola” the Acting Governor said.
