The pioneer General Manager of Radio Kogi, Isah Edime has been murdered by yet-to-be identified gunmen in the late hours of Tuesday, in his country home Egume, in Dekina local government area of Kogi state, leaving no clue behind.

Dependable sources told Peoples Daily that the assassins, numbering seven, invaded their prey’s compound at Ojikpakpala-Egume about 9 pm on the fateful day and gathered as many people they could lay their hands on and shot them, including their prime target, Isah Edime.

Peoples Daily also gathered that during the melee that ensued, the wife of the deceased veteran journalist raised an alarm and threatened to report the matter to the chairman of the vigilant group in the area, one Attah Ugbono, who also received the assassins’ bullets and died few minutes after the death of the ace journalist.

Confirming the report when contacted over the death of Edime, who was a title-holder of Igala Kingdom and the head of the vigilante of Egume, the Kogi state police command has assured that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will soon be brought to book.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Emeh (SP) the police are already on the trail of the assassins, saying that they always leave a tail in their track that will make the police to smoke them out their hideouts.

He said that the victim had some time ago reported a case of ‘threat to his life’, saying that the lead is still fresh, which the command will explore with others and nab the culprits.

The victim, it is said, had ran into troubled water with his community years back over siting of a borehole in his domain coupled with his recent involvement in a bitter quarrel with some tipper drivers over sand excavation in his community.

The veteran journalist, who was a gubernatorial aspirant in 2003 in the state, rose to be a Director-General of Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN), Gwagwalada branch, before his final retirement.

While the late Journalist was made popular by his report of Late Col. George Agbazika Innih’s exploits when he was Kwara state governor then, his programme, tagged: “Democracy in action” in the FRCN Kaduna branch, made him popular among the enlightened community of Nigeria.
