An Abuja based Non-governmental organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy has donated the sum of N150, 000, to support the treatment of one baby Chinasa Onako, living with an inimical growth condition.
Baby Chinas has a health condition that has deformed her right cheek which her handlers said would require at least the sum of N5million to correct, in India.
PeoplesDaily learnt that Baby Chinasa, who hails from Okija, in Anambra State, was rescued two years ago by the National Coordinator Hands and Care, Jacinta Nwakaego Nworie, who took the 2 year old from a syndicate that used her to make money for themselves, in the guise of raising fund for her treatment.
Moved by the plight of baby Chinasa, whose face has been disfigured by the unusual growth of her right cheek, the Foundation made the donation to Chinasa through her mother, Mrs. Victoria Onako who has been desperately seeking support for her daughter’s treatment, to correct her baby’s facial deformity.
President of the Foundation, Jumai Ahmadu while presenting the cash on behalf of the foundation, noted that baby Chinasa deserved to be fairly treated by her society through financial supports that would help her get her facial growth corrected.
Ahmadu said the foundation was founded to support genuine cases like that of Chinasa and encouraged private members of the public as well as corporate bodies to see the baby as a gift of God to Nigeria that can positively affect the nation for good in the future.
She said such assistance would be an investment in an important child and member of the society like another whose contribution to the nation is yet known and could be a messiah of immense transformation for country.
Onako, the mother of the baby, who was visibly overwhelmed by the show of love of the foundation towards her daughter, busted into tears.
The mother, who spoke in Igbo, but was interpreted into English by Mrs. Nworie, showed blessings on the foundation just as she thanked them for the gesture.
According to Mrs. Nworie, the assumption that the growth is cancerous is unfounded as the health condition does not suggest so, but indicated that more than one tissue have merged and continued growing which clearly dismisses the suspicion that it may be cancer as speculated.
She stressed that her organization rescued the duo from a syndicate that used the girl to raise over N5m required for the treatment of baby Chinasa, yet, refused to take the girl for diagnosis and treatment of the ailment.
She commended Helpline Foundation for what she described as “an unusual show of love and cash support to baby Chinasa,” pledging that the gestures inspires her to continue her mobilisation for the needed support for the baby’s surgery.
