The New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation yesterday engaged over one thousand students of Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna main Campus on Menstrual hygiene and other personal hygiene matters.
In a lecture delivered by the matron Kaduna State University Medical Centre Hajia Maryam Bala Abubakar warned that the Sanitary pad is to be won during menstruation for a period of four to five hours only.
She revealed that “the use of disinfectant, soap, and others to wash the Virgina is unhygienic, instead warm water only should be used.
“Also, when you know you are on menstruation, use tight panties so that the pad can fit in. When women don’t manage this menstruation properly, it affects the reproductive system and becomes a major health crisis.”
In her remarks the founder and Chief Executive Officer of New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation Mrs Grace Jessica Daniels said the crisis that can emanate from the poor management of menstruation is dead and so the awareness for Sanitary Health becomes imperative.
According to her, the use of disinfectant and soap for washing Virgina is a leading cause of cancer in young ladies and must be discouraged stressing that sanitary pads must be properly disposed of in the waste bins and not flushed in the toilets or littered around the backyards or in drainage systems.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation Kaduna State Chapter Mr. John Aichem commended Kaduna State University for accepting to host the program on campus.
Aichem maintained that the organization will continue on its mission of building peace, caring for orphans, Counselling, and Capacity building in health.
