The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sought the collaboration of men of the Nigeria Police in the areas of its operations, for effective performance of both government agencies.

This need for synergy was expressed by the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Chidi Nkwonta, when he paid a courtesy call on the Lagos state Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, at the Police Command Headquarters in Lagos.

Nkwonta, who itemized the areas he needed collaboration with the Police boss in Lagos, said the issues of fake driver’s license and plate numbers are giving the FRSC serious worries.

He said this is more so, because those who are in the business of perpetrating such acts seem not to be aware that it is a criminal act.

He then pleaded with the commissioner to assist by prosecuting those arrested by his Command.

He revealed that his sector has given directives to the various unit commanders to, as a matter of urgency, begin to carry out weekly checks on motorists, to ascertain the type of license they are carrying.

Nkwonta also frowned that some senior police officers in the Lagos Command had often chased away his men from carrying out their civic duties, on the excuse that the men of FRSC are restricted to highways alone.

He noted that the Act that set up the organization in 2007 indicates that the organisation has jurisdiction on all roads, whether they are highways or within the metropolis, urging the Commissioner to educate his men on the Act setting up the FRSC.
