Greed, selfishness and lust for money, bane of Nigeria’s problems – Sheikh Lemu

Recipient of the King Fahd 20`14 Award and former Chairman of Da’awa Coordination Council of Nigeria, Sheikh Ahmad Lemu, has said the greed, selfishness and lust for wealth by those entrusted with duty of  stirring the affairs of the country is the  bane of the present uncontrolled corruption and   insecurity bedeviling the nation.

 The Cleric stated this while receiving a letter of appreciation from the Sultan of Sokoto and President Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, for the feat of making the Muslims Ummah and Nigeria proud by getting the highest award in Saudi Arabia, in Kaduna yesterday.

Sheikh Lemu added that it is time for the people in leadership to come down to the senses and work with the fair of Allah.

“The current set of leaders has to do more to move the country foward and this is only possible if they put away greed and selfishness from their mind and work sincerely for the people.

“I am an elderly man now and will not hide any fact from you, because of my desire that you become better than me, but the truth must be told; wen have to change our way and stop hiding under religion and ethnic sentiment to commit evil.

“When I remember people like the late Sultan Abubakar II, who was a man of integrity and who supported the establishment of the Da’awah Council with some part of his salary;  but how many of our leaders today can do that?

“We are busy acquiring wealth as if that is what will take us to Aljanhah; it is better to check our ways and return to the our creator’s teachings, in order to move the nation foreword”, he said.

In his remark, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar said the award bestowed on Sheik Ahmad Lemu is to show that there are still some Nigerians who are

committed to serving Allah and humanity and urged Muslims and Christians to unite against evil forces causing confusion in the country.

The Sultan also expressed the appreciation of the Muslim community to the federal government, for sending a delegation, led by the Vice-President Arc. Muhammad Namadi Sambo, to support the sheikh and adviced President Goodluck Jonathan to set aside a day to  receive Sheikh Ahmad Lemu because of the honour he brought to the country by winning the prestigious award.
