Is the number of Nigerian league players seeking greener pastures abroad continues to increase, Super Eagles stand-in coach, Daniel Amokachi has urged the players to take their time and be a little patient before they move.
The last one month has seen an exodus of top performers from the 2014 Nigeria Professional Football League season, with the likes of Peter Ebimobowei, Emem Eduok, Gbolahan Salami, and Osaguna Ighodaro already signing professional contracts abroad, Amokachi feels it will be best if Nigerian players were just a bit more patient before securing moves abroad.
“It doesn’t make sense at all because everything in life takes time, it is ordained. Even God himself, it took him six days to create the world and took a rest after that, before he continued.”
“They should always wait for their time because it will surely come if it is ordained for them to make it in professional football abroad,” Amokachi said.
The former Super Eagles striker took charge of the predominantly home based team that went on a two game tour of the United Arab Emirates this January, and has more advice for the players, whom he admonishes to be careful with the kinds of agents they deal with.
“In Nigeria now, you have like one player that has signed with five different agents and when you invite them to the national team, they start running around looking for agents to collect their international passports.”
“It doesn’t make sense because at the end of the day, they’re taken to Indonesia or Afghanistan and you see that it doesn’t make sense at all,” Amokachi blasted.
The exodus is expected to continue however, with the Likes of Mfon Udoh, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Kingsley Sokari expected to be the next ones on the move.
