Masari inaugurates C’ttee on criminal justice administration

Katsina State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee has been inaugurated by Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
Addressing the inaugural session, yesterday, the Governor noted that the overriding objective of every legal system is to deliver justice, which is the pillar that uphold decency in civilised human societies.
Masari reminded members of the committee that justice is the best guarantee for peace, prosperity and good governance.
He said there was urgent need to address the speed of Justice delivery among all stakeholders in the justice sector.
The Governor contended that efficiency, transparency and integrity were the hallmark of Justice delivery but lamented that the state justice delivery system is bedeviled by the problem of delays, inefficiency and deficient transparency.
He said it was in response to the challenges that the reforms in the justice sector became imperative, hence the signing in to law in May this year of Administration of criminal justice law of katsina state.
According to the Governor, the broad objective of the law is to facilitate an efficient and transparent criminal justice delivery, which he said would in turn induce confidence in the court system.
He said the law had specified the functions of the committee in fast tracking the process of crime investigation, prosecution and conviction.
He added that the law had made adequate provisions on the role of all stakeholders in coordinating, monitoring and assuring timelines of the process from the point of arrest until conclusion of the trial.
He assured that the state government would continue to support the committee to perform its responsibilities optimally.
In an acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee who is also the state chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar assured that a radical revolution would be witness in the administration of criminal justice in the state.
Members of the committee are the Chairman of the Committee and state Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, the state Grand Khadi Al-Hafiz Abubakar Mikailu a High court judge, Justice Ibrahim Maikaita Bako, the state Attorney General and commissioner of Justice, Alhaji Elmarzooq Ahmed Usman, the state Solicitor General, the representative of the state Commissioner of Police, the representative of the state Director of Security, the representative of the Correctional Service, the state Director of Human Rights, the state chairman of Nigeria Bar Association-NBA and the state chief Registrar.
