The Andoma of Doma in Nasarawa State, Ahmadu Aliyu-Ogah has called on the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to protect journalism profession from impostors using the social media in spreading fake news.
The monarch who is the grand patron of Nasarawa State Council of NUJ, made the appeal on Monday in Lafia at the opening ceremony of 2021 press week in the state.
His words, “every Nigerian with an Android phone has turn himself to be a journalist, posting all manner of things in various platforms of the social media.
“People without any form of qualification or medium reports falsehood promoting hatred and division among people in different part of the country.
“The impostors often post fake pictures and stories aimed at setting Nigerians against each other.
“The fake news being paddled in the social media has caused a lot of hatred leading to avoidable lost of lives and property”.
