Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has appointed Mr Uchenna Ogbonna as the Executive Director of the Ernest Shonekan Centre for Legislative Reforms and Economic Development.
Dr Tayo Aduloju, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NESG, confirmed this in a statement in Lagos.
Aduloju said with this appointment, Ogbonna becomes the pioneer Executive Director of the Ernest Shonekan Centre (ESC), launched during the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES 29) in October 2023.
He stated that the Centre aims to promote legislative, regulatory, and judicial reforms to enhance economic competitiveness and improve Nigeria’s business environment.
According to him, Ogbonna’s extensive experience and visionary leadership align perfectly with NEDG’s mission to drive positive change in Nigeria’s economic landscape.
Aduloju expressed confidence that under his stewardship, the Centre would continue to make significant strides in influencing policy and fostering sustainable growth.
“We look forward to the innovative solutions and strategic direction he will bring to the centre,”he said.
Reacting, Ogbonna expressed delight on his appointment to lead the process for the ESC and eagerness to work alongside the dedicated team to drive impactful change.
He said that legislative reforms and economic development were crucial to the nation’s progress.
“Our mission is to serve as a knowledge platform that aggregates and deploy research to facilitate an enabling environment for business in Nigeria.
“I am committed to building on the ESC’s strong foundation to enhance our role as a thought leader in legislative and economic reforms,”he said.
Ogbonna’s career spans over two decades, with a strong private sector foundation in law, financial services and legislative reforms.
He holds LLB degree in Law, a BL degree from the Nigerian Law School, an MBA in Insurance and Risk Management, and an MSc in Management.
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Management and has received comprehensive training in Risk Management, Finance, Legal, Corporate Governance, Strategy, and Leadership from various prestigious institutes worldwide.
He is an alumnus of the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Ogbonna has actively participated in numerous legislative processes at both national and state levels.
His expertise encompasses investments, compliance and regulatory affairs, government relations, business operations, board dynamics, legal risk management, and corporate governance.
The Ernest Shonekan Centre is a research and consulting organisation,established by NESG.
ESC specialises in promoting legislative and regulatory reforms for achieving economic competitiveness and improving the business environment.
The Centre is a response to the need for structure, organisation, coordination, and leadership in the national and subnational efforts to improve the business environment and investment climate in Nigeria
