New UNIBEN VC, Salami unveils 5-year strategic plan

The newly appointed substantive Vice Chancellor of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. (Mrs) Imuetiyan Lilian Salami, has unveiled a 7-point strategic plan for the next five years.
She disclosed this while delivering her delivering her inaugural speech on Monday at the Auditorium of the University.
Prof. Salami identified areas of focus to include increase funding and sustainable initiatives by activating the Internally generated revenue.
The VC who is a professor of Home Economics and Nutritional Education, promised to reposition the security architecture of the institution and prioritize quality academic programmes, research, enhanced Staff, students welfare.
She also threatened to sanction any Faculty and Staff members who constitute themselves as clog in the wheel of progress.
According to her, “Such staff will be compulsorily retrained and appropriately re-deployed and if such Staff is un-trainable, other actions will be considered.
The VC who sued for cooperation of students, Staff and Management to make the institution rank among global best, explained that infrastructural deficit in the University Campuses, adding that her “leadership will show authenticity, anchored on honesty without being self-righteous and accepting that all are vulnerable”.
“As we all know, you cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. If the University of Benin is to achieve greater height, we must all change our ways of working, attitude, mindset and orientation. It is indeed the responsibility of all of us to join hands in total devotion to the same cause – one greater than our individual desires.
Presenting the newly elected VC, Prof. Salami to the students, Staff and Management of the institution, the former Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Faraday Orumwense in an emotion-ladden voice, described the smooth transition as memorable and charged the Management of the School to extend the same cooperation he enjoined during his tenure as VC to Prof. Salami.
On her part, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Otasowie Oshodin, said the expectation from the new leadership of the University, is great while the task is enormous.
Our Correspondent reports that Prof. Imuetiyan Lilian Salami was appointed as the 10th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin during the 157th regular meeting of the Governing Council of the University, 34 years after the first female VC, Prof. (Mrs) Grace Alele-Williams tenure.
