The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, has decried the prevalence in molestation of minors across board.
A statement issued on Monday by DSC Monica Ojobi, FCT CDPRO, said
Commandant Odumosu, made this known when he received in audience students of ECWA Hill Academy, Maitama, in his office at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja on excursion.
“We have apart from our key mandate of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, anti trafficking and gender units of the Command, that mediate extensively to protect children from being sexually molested, trafficked and for organ harvesting. It is sad to say that currently we are handling a case of a father molesting his nine (9) years old daughter”
“We are concern about this insanity perpetrated against minors especially girls and we are set through our Gender Unit and other relevant agencies to make sure that such incidences are not treated with lose gloves”.
The FCT Command Boss, urged the students to be weary of people, even their parents who touch them inappropriately and be bold enough to speak up when such things happen.
While chronicling the history of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps formation, he disclosed that the Corps, came into existence as a voluntary organization in 1967 known as Lagos Civil Defence Committee, basically to educate Nigerian populace on how to protect themselves from cross fire during the civil war and evolved into a full fledge paramilitary agency by Act of 2003 and amended by 2007 Act.
The Commandant, urged the students to take their academics seriously and be studious to make both their parents and the Nation proud.
He assured them that through the safe school initiative of the Federal Government as spear headed by the Corps, the FCT Command will continue to ensure the safety of both students and teachers in the FCT while in school and will also ensure that Critical National Assets and Infrastructure are properly protected to make life more meaningful for them.
Speaking, the leader of the team and a tutor at the ECWA Hill Academy, Mr. Angbulu Joshua, said they are impressed with the several achievements of the Corps, stating that the visit was to give the students first hand information on the functionality of the Corps.
Highlights of the excursion was the inspection of various units of the corps and tutorials on the different departments and units of the Corps.
