NUJ FCT Council, Tayan Group in partnership talks on affordable housing for journalists

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has initiated a strategic collaboration with leading real estate firm, Tayan Group Construction to secure affordable housing for journalists and accelerate the completion of its ultra-modern Congress Hall project in Abuja.
This was disclosed on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT Council leadership to the headquarters of Tayan Group.
According to the NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Ms. Grace Ike, who represented over 1,500 journalists, lauded Tayan Group as a key player in Abuja’s urban transformation.
She emphasized the union’s desire for a mutually beneficial relationship with forward-thinking organizations focused on social responsibility.
Ike specifically requested Tayan Group’s support—through construction materials or technical expertise—to complete the vital Congress Hall project, designed as a modern center for media training, professional events, and journalists’ welfare.
Potential areas of collaboration outlined by Ike also include media promotion of the real estate firm’s projects, joint community programs, capacity-building initiatives, and mass housing schemes, including the actualization of the “Journalists Village” in the FCT.
In response, the company’s Managing Director, Akinjide Fabgemi, reaffirmed its commitment to partnerships that foster inclusive development, particularly within the media sector.
Fabgemi described the engagement as “long overdue,” stressing that collaboration is central to success in today’s world and highlighting the media as a crucial pillar of his business.
He expressed the group’s readiness to partner with the NUJ FCT across various fronts.
On affordable housing, the Managing Director noted that Tayan Group offers a wide range of land and housing options in Abuja, from as low as N600,000 to luxury properties.
He assured NUJ members of flexible payment plans, including options spanning up to two years for land and twenty years through financial institutions, ensuring “even the poorest of the poor can have a roof over their heads.”
