Over 8,000 Tijjaniyya members Rally Support for Gov. Idris, Pray for Peace

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, on Sunday called on Muslim faithful to intensify prayers for peace in communities affected by insecurity across the state and the country.

The governor made the appeal when members of the Tijjaniyya sect from different parts of Nigeria converged on the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, for an annual Maulud celebration.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Idris reaffirmed his commitment to upholding Islamic values and supporting programmes that promote moral and spiritual development in Kebbi State.

“My administration is doing everything within its capacity to uphold our religious traditions and values for our wellbeing in this world and the hereafter,” he said.

“I am not taken aback by this massive turnout because I have long-standing ties with leaders of various religious bodies in the state. Any initiative that promotes religion will receive my full backing to help it thrive.”

The governor urged the participants to return to their respective mosques and prayer centres and offer special prayers for peace in areas facing security challenges.

He also solicited prayers for the continued progress and development of Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.

Governor Idris expressed optimism that, through collective prayers, unity and determination, his administration would overcome the challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Just as we navigated difficult times and obstacles through prayers in the past, we are confident that we will overcome the same challenges in 2027 by God’s grace,” he said.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Political Matters, Alhaji Kabiru Sani-Giant, described Governor Idris as a devoted admirer of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“Governor Nasir Idris is a true lover of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and for that reason, we must stand firmly behind him,” Sani-Giant said.

“We must support his administration in every possible way so that he can continue delivering the developmental projects he has started since assuming office,” he added.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Alhaji Umar Faruk-Ambursa, disclosed that more than 8,000 executives of the Tijjaniyya order attended the gathering.

“You can see for yourselves that more than 8,000 executives of the Tijjaniyya order are here today,” Faruk-Ambursa said.

He commended the governor for appointing a member of the sect into his cabinet, describing the decision as commendable.

“This appointment, alongside the numerous projects and achievements of this administration, shows the governor’s goodwill. We assure him of the sect’s support for his re-election in 2027,” he said.

On his part, the Chairman of the Tijjaniyya Group for Mobilisation and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria in Kebbi, Malam Nazifi Inyas, said the organisation was established to support vulnerable members of society and sensitise the public on active and responsible political participation.

Inyas noted that Governor Idris had been supporting the association long before he became governor and had sustained the gesture since assuming office.

“The governor has been assisting us even before he became governor of Kebbi State,” Inyas said.

“He continues to support us whenever we hold programmes within the state and across the country.

“We appreciate him for all he has been doing for this respected association in the state,” he added.
