By Lateef Ibrahim

An aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved his decision to resign and contest the 2027 governorship election.
Adelabu made the disclosure while addressing his supporters, stating that he met with the president before stepping down from his ministerial position.
According to him, Tinubu encouraged him to pursue his long-standing ambition, assuring him that he would not stand in his way.
The former minister further revealed that the president is considering a consensus arrangement to produce the party’s candidate in Oyo State, but has yet to endorse any aspirant.
He added that in the event consensus fails, direct primaries may be adopted to determine the party’s flagbearer.
Adelabu also described himself as a loyal ally of the president in the state, expressing confidence in his chances ahead of the party’s selection process.
The development signals early jostling within the APC as political actors position themselves for the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
