The police detectives in Ughelli town, Delta state, have arrested three native doctors following illegal abortion allegedly carried out on two female students of a notable secondary school in the area.

Sources say illegal abortion thrive in Ughelli metropolis where the suspects allegedly operate “Local Nursing Home” for unsuspecting pregnant teenage girls who often do not want to be “mothers”

Expectedly, the suspects who operate under the guise of registered native doctors, provide “platform” for abortion and in most cases charge between N20,000 and N30, 000 for pregnant teenage girls.

In the  police bulletin, Dsp Celestina Kalu, police public Relations officer in the State, said the suspects were arrested on a tip-off, adding that the police recovered various calabash filled with concoction in their operational base.

Dsp Kalu said that the suspects are now helping the police at Ughelli police Division, upon interrogation, confessed to be native doctors who care for mothers/Children with native herbs, adding that they would be charged to court soon.
