The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Yobe state chapter, Wednesday, elected new executive to run the affairs of the association for the next three years.
The election took place at the 27th August stadium, Damaturu Yobe state capital; supervised by the SWAN Vice President North East Zone, Comrade Ahmed Kagana Amshi.
Joel Duku of the Nation Newspapers was elected Chairman, Yusuf Bukar Biriri of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) emerged as Vice chairman, while Mustapha Yusuf Musa of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) was elected Secretary.
Others are Penina Jeje Ali of Yobe Radio as Treasurer, Michael Oshomah of TVC News, Financial Secretary, while Mohammed Rabiu Biriri of Yobe State Television (YTV) and Idriss Yunusa Bingel of (YBC) as Welfare Officer and Assistant Secretary respectively.
When announced his victory, Joel Duku expressed that, “This momentous occasion not only signifies a personal achievement for me as a person but also stands as a testament to the collective support and trust garnered from the sports journalism community of Yobe State.”
“The overwhelming mandate reflects the widespread endorsement and confidence bestowed upon me by fellow sports writers, colleagues, and stakeholders in the state.”
“The immense support received throughout the campaign, I acknowledged the significance of the responsibility now entrusted to my leadership a this juncture.”
“With a deep sense of commitment, I pledge to serve with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a vision to propel the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Yobe State Chapter, to new heights.” He said.
He assured that, “As the newly elected Chairman, I am poised to foster collaboration and camaraderie within the association, creating a platform that encourages open dialogue, innovation, and the exchange of ideas.
“I am enthusiastic about working hand in hand with fellow members to elevate the standards of sports journalism in Yobe State.”
