The Kebbi Government on Wednesday said it had trained 210 nurses and midwives on ethics of dealing with patients.
The state Director of Nursing Service, Alhaji Umar Kwaido, said in Birinin Kebbi that the training was done in conjunction with the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
He told the participants that the programme was also aimed at improving their professional ethics and proficiency.
The training, with the theme “Nursing and midwifery training on the scale of law”, would last for three days.
“The trained nurses and midwives are updated on patients’ rights and responsibilities that required regard and protection and in line with global trends,” he said.
Kwaido advised the trained health personnel to stop violating the rights of patients, stressing that nursing and midwifery needed human face.
“We want the nurses and midwives to be conscious with the ethics of their profession in dealing with the patients’ rights,” he said.
The state Chairman of NANNW, Alhaji Abubakar Kao’je, pledged the association’s resolve to sustain the training of its members on the provision of advanced healthcare to patients.
Ka’oje also promised members’ commitment to “uphold professional ethics in line with the law”.
He commended the efforts of the state government and the hospitals management board for training the health personnel on their responsibilities.
Mrs Paul Anoyo, a Chief Nursing Officer, said the training had boosted morale in delivering advanced healthcare to patients and urged the trainees to train others. (NAN)
