Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been awarded the 2026 Governor of the Year honor at the National Leadership Awards held on Tuesday at Merit House, Abuja.
Organizers stated that the award honors his courageous, people-focused leadership, citing measurable progress in restoring security, promoting social cohesion, and accelerating infrastructure development across the state.
During the award presentation, Chief BJ Opara, Team Lead of the National Leadership Summit Group, described Governor Sani’s leadership as impactful and exemplary.
“Governor Uba Sani exemplifies the leadership Nigeria needs now—resilient in facing security issues, intentional in uniting a diverse population, and committed to delivering real development. Kaduna’s progress under his leadership is a strong example of purposeful governance,” Opara said.
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor expressed gratitude for the recognition and dedicated the award to the people of Kaduna State.
“This award reflects the collective determination of our people and our administration’s firm commitment to peace, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. We are focused on building on these successes for a safer and more united Kaduna,” he stated.
Malam Maiyaki mentioned that the administration has achieved significant security improvements through intelligence-led operations, enhanced cooperation with security agencies, and increased community involvement, leading to fewer banditry incidents and boosted public confidence, especially in previously troubled areas.
He also emphasized the Governor’s targeted peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts, which have helped heal longstanding divisions and promote unity across Kaduna’s diverse ethnic and religious groups, along with ongoing investments in essential infrastructure to boost economic growth and improve residents’ livelihoods.
The National Leadership Awards are widely considered one of Nigeria’s top platforms for recognizing excellence in public service and governance.
