Varsity don laments paucity of vacancies in Nigeria

The Vice Chancellor Adamawa State University Mubi, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has observed with dismay the inadequacy of vacancies for teeming graduates in Nigeria .

She made the observation at the inauguration ceremony of a new effort to make Nigeria technologically innovative and economically self reliant known as Maker Education Alliance Nigeria (MEAN) held at the 1000 seat capacity lecture theatre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi,

Farauta who was  the chairman of the occasion noted that  time has come when Nigeria must wake up and use its human resource to become a self reliant nation.

According to her, there are no adequate vacancies for the teeming number of youths graduating from local and foreign institutions in the country.

She said “even those in government’s payroll hardly get their monthly salary, a situation that forced an unpaid civil servant in Kogi state to commit suicide.

She explained that MEAN is a prototype of World Maker Education Alliance ( WMEA), a nonprofit social organization jointly supported by over 30 countries and regions.

In a welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of ATBU Bauchi Professor Saminu Ibrahim who commended the foresight of the facilitators of the programme, described the initiative as timely.

Professor Ibrahim, who was represented by Professor O. Ogie, pledged the readiness of the university to support the efforts of the federal government to promote entrepreneurship skills among students in order to make them job providers not job seekers after graduation.

Speaking earlier, the Nigerian Coordinator of World Maker Education Alliance Professor Simon Yalams of ATBU Bauchi, said the programme is committed to stimulating critical thinking, creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation among youths for national economic development.

He called on universities and other higher institutions in the country to collaborate and form synergies for the training of their next generation.
