Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani has said Water is essential and critical to human lives. Hence, it is one of the cardinal objectives of his administration to make water accessible to the people.

He asserted this while conducting inspection tours of some water projects in Kakuri in Kaduna South Local Government Area and Zaria Local Government Area yesterday.

Governor Uba Sani expressed dismay over the State of water supply he inherited from the previous administration.

According to him, despite the millions of dollars in loans spent by the Islamic Development Bank and African Development Bank, the State is only 10 percent of the supply of water across the 23 LGAs.

The Governor, however, said the good news is that the State of emergency in the water sector is yielding positive results as the State is presently enjoying a 25 percent water supply.

He added that the contractor handling the water assured him that before the 4th quarter of the year, the State will archive the targeted 100 percent.

“As a government, we believe that our major responsibility is to ensure that our people live and have affordable water and other things we are focusing on.

Speaking earlier the Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Aliyu Lere  Said the major problem mitigating the water supply is the removal of some pipelines during Road construction by the previous administration.

According to him, the construction of the road was done haphazardly without the collaboration of the Water Corporation.

The water Cooperation was not taken into consideration, and they were not invited and were not aware despite the pipelines being procured with an Islamic Development Bank loan and an African Development Bank loan worth millions of dollars.

“The pipes were removed and dumped. A lot of them have been charted away and sold in a scrapped market.

“We appreciate you for agreeing to spend a huge amount of money.

“ Our sympathy is with you because you needed resources to move forward instead of bringing you backward to solve the problem that somebody else created.”
