Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has disclosed that the recent windstorm that ravaged parts of the state had destroyed property worth N2.3 billion.
Masari made the disclosure, weekend, while speaking at the Katsina emir’s palace when President Muhammad Buhari paid a sympathy visit to the victims in Katsina.
He noted that the windstorm has destroyed buildings in public schools valued at the cost of N200 million.
The governor added that when the incident occurred the state government had dispatched officials of the state disaster management agency to conduct a census of the affected persons.
Masari said the government has offered assistance to the affected persons, appealing to the federal government to come in and assist the victims.
“ The victims should not blame anybody for the disaster. It is an act of God that nobody can prevent or has power over it”, he stressed. In a remark, President Muhammad Buhari has sympathized with the victims and urged them to take the incident as an act of God.
Buhari said the federal government would send a team of expert to Katsina to assess the disaster and find ways of assisting them.
Similarly, the emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has thanked the president for the visit which he said is a sign of good leadership.
