Zungeru Hydropower Dam project: Compensation in progress

Payment of compensation on farm lands to the affected communities and its environs following the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Dam project in progress as the re settlement of those communities will soon commence.

This was contained in a press statement issued in Minna yesterday by the Community Relation Committee (CRC) Chairman of the project Alhaji Isah Jibrin Garkuwa Nupe saying that with this development work on the project site is now in progress.

Chairman urged the beneficiaries to make good use of their money wisely and that what was paid to them now is for crops and economic trees while that of structures will soon be address urging them to be patient as all their entitlements was assured.

Alhaji Jibrin appealed to the communities for their understanding and cooperation adding that the authorities have noted with seriousness the observed cases of omission of names, under payment, and the delay experienced in the banks in the compensation exercise, and assured them that the issues will be looked into with a view to making needed amendments.

He further, reiterated the need for the communities to continue to be law-abiding, patient and peaceful, promising that his committee will not let them down.

The Chairman commended President Goodluck Jonathan particularly his total commitment in the transformation of power sector for this nation.

He also applauded the efforts of the Hon Minister Prof Chinedu Nebo, Federal Ministry of Power in his effort to ensure the issue of resettlement to the new site for those to be displace is receiving a greater attention.

He further urged those yet to be paid to exercise a little more patient. The Chairman further expressed great appreciation to the Chief Servant of Niger State, Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu for being there at all times supporting the progress of this project.

The statement commended the fatherly and peace-making role of Emirs in the Minna, Kagara and Kontagora emirates, who it stated contributed much to the peaceful atmosphere that led up to the successful exercise in the area.

The Emir of Minna who has made his doors open at all times in listening to his people and has been giving them words of endurance and cooperation to those caring out exercises in the area.
