16 Days of Activism: FCTA,UNFPA took campaign to Bwari

To widen gender -based safety awareness drive, the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat (FCT- HS&ES), through its Primary Health Care Board, worked with UNFPA to mark 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence at the Gaba Safe Space Centre, in Bwari, Abuja.
At the event, the Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Rukayah Wammako, representing the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe restated the FCT Administration’s commitment to keeping women and girls safe in all communities, both online and offline.
She noted that the Safe Space Centre continues to provide important support for survivors, including counseling, empowerment programmes and referral services.
It was observed that the event also showed how government, partners, and community members are working together to prevent gender-based violence, raise awareness, and protect the rights of women and girls.
Also, the programme had in attendance key stakeholders, including community and religious leaders, partners and government officials, all working together for effective and result-oriented implementation.
In a related development, Fasawe, attended the unveiling of the Women in Public Health Leadership for Africa (WiPHLA) ,at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja
Dr. Theresa Nwakchuckwu, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, represented the Mandate Secretary at the event, which brought together leaders and health professionals from across Africa.
Fasewe noted that the health of any society depends on two things: health and the environment, and women play a key role in both. She added that women lead families, health teams, and communities every day, shaping the well-being of millions.
WiPHLA aims to support these women by providing leadership training, mentorship, and networks that help them grow and make greater impact.
The event was also a strong show of support, with both women and men committing to promote women in public health leadership.
