Over 500 less privileged children and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) were on Sunday fed by a non-governmental organization, NGO, the Queen Adenike Tejuosho (QAT) Foundation, in Karon-majuji community in Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
It was part of activities lined up for the celebration of the Eid El Kabir festival by the NGO, founded by Dr Halimat Adenike Tejuosho.
Speaking at the event, which witnessed dancing competition and giving out of gifts and various school items to the children, the Secretary of the QAT Foundation, Mrs Agatha Abdullahi revealed that it (the Foundation) had, in the past, organized similar program in other villages in the nation’s capital such as Durumi and Kuchingoro with a view to giving the less privilege children and PWDs sense of belonging.
According to her, “I am here to represent the founder who sent us to come and celebrate with the over 500 children of this community, gift them with school bags, writing materials, foods and other items. In short, our founder is the reason we are having this gathering on a Sallah day.
“We realized that the government cannot do it alone, hence our intervention through this foundation across the country.”
Responding on behalf of Alhaji Suleiman Katsina, Emir of People with Disability in the community, the Secretary Alhaji Muhammad Dantami thanked the Foundation for the gesture, saying that in the last twenty years, “no Foundation has ever done this for us”.
He appealed to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to continue to empower the PWDs so that they can also empower their community via skills acquisition.
His words, “As you can see, everybody is out here and happy with what Hajia Halimat Adenike Tejuosho Foundation has done for us and our children most especially.
“This humanitarian activity is rare as virtually all the states of the federation have had a taste of her Foundation gesture.”Dantami added.
Dantami, who described Tejuosho as their ‘mandate’ joined others in calling on President Bola Tinubu to consider Tejuosho for the vacant position of the Humanitarian Minister for better delivery.
