Pharm. Council of Nigeria nabs 7 vendors in Gombe

Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) have  arrested 7 vendors within Gombe metropolitan that operate illegally, and also broke  PCN seals.

Head of Enforcement Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Dr. Suleiman S. Chiroma made the disclosure while briefing Journalists on Thursday in Gombe.

He said the arrested vendors will face the  wrath of the law for operating illegally,   adding that investigation is on going with the aim of prosecuting the vendors at Federal High Court.

According to him, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria under the leadership of Pharm Ibrahim Babashehu will not spared any  person or group of people undermining the  PCN regulatory mandate such defaulters will be brought to book to ensure safe access to medicine.

Dr. Chiroma while addressing Journalists said during  the operation in Gombe, no fewer than 144 premises were  visited by PCN and  out of  this number, 100 were sealed for various offenses ranging from non renewal of licenses, illegal operation at premises, clinical practices, stocking of medicine without approval by patent medicine while 2 were directed to comply.

He also revealed that in 2022 and 2024, in Gombe some individuals were  operating pharmaceutical premises illegally.

He added that in  accordance with the PCN Act, all illegal shops were sealed for various offenses but such defaulters went ahead and broke PCN seals without due process which he said the defaulters operated with impunity  that triggered PCN to operate from 2nd to 3rd of April 2025.

He however, advised residents to report any premises or vendor that poses risk to the public calling on them to register and licence their premises that can easily be identified by PCN.

According to him, PCN will do everything possible to ensure implementation of national drug distribution guideline and also leak free channel of smooth distribution of medicine and medical devices leading to provision and access to safe potent and effective medicine for Nigerians.
