Council boss urged to repair dilapidated roads in Gwagwalada

Some residents of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to the chairman of the area council, Hon Abubakar Jibrin Giri to repair the dilapidated major roads, causing a lot of hardships on people in the area.

In particular, the residents expressed their dismay that such a major road, like that the link road, connecting Gwagwalada central market and other adjourning communities had been abandoned by the council chairman.

However, a cross section of residents, who spoke to Peoples Daily, called on the Council chairman to as a matter of urgency expedite action towards the rehabilitation of the major road, for the benefit of the motorists as well as market men and women plying the road.

A resident, Mr. Salihu Ahmadu, who described the condition of the as critical, said its repair was long overdue, to ameliorate the plights of people in the area.

He expressed dismay over array of many bad roads in the council, especially the Gwagwalada market one-way road axis.

He lambasted the leadership of council for over time failing to give priority attention to road infrastructure in the area.

Ahmadu however pleaded with the chairman of the council to deem it necessary to focus on developing the area and its environs before the expiration of his tenure in office.

Another resident, Mr. Samuel John, lamented that on daily basis, commuters and other residents go through a lot of hardships, while passing through the bad road linking a major market in the area

He called on the council leadership to ensure it fixed the deplorable major link road, to enable the traders have easy access to the market.

He however stressed the need for the government to always consult with the people, in order to understand their needs, saying that it is the only way that gains of democracy will be impacted positively on the lives of the residents.

Similarly, one Mrs. Juliana Magut, urged the administration of the area council to repair the demonstration primary school road, which is now a death trap for students and other commuters passing through it.

She complained about the town hall road, which was repaired by the council, but the road was being washed way gradually, due to the shady work done by the contractors on it.

Meanwhile, a community leader in charge of Anguwan Ajara, in Gwagwalada, Mallam Lawal Saleh, expressed worry that although Alhaji Nura-Anguwan Ajara road, which was rehabilitated by the lawmaker representing Abuja south at the National House of Assembly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Hon. Isah Egah Dobi, the road is still in bad condition.
